India continues to battle against transmission and distribution issues that end up translating into power shortages. Over time, policy makers have shifted their focus from focusing on power generation to transmission, distribution and coverage and now reduction in Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses. State electricity boards face huge financial losses every year due to anomalies in billing and collection practices, coupled with unchecked power-theft. It is hoped that IT can help curb loss and theft of power and do away with anomalies in billing.
